Every summer it comes around again. The challenge. The pressure. A calendar with the holiday date glowing in red. And with it the classic plan: lose weight fast, cut back, work hard … and above all look good. But behind the pretty photo in a swimsuit there is often exhaustion, hunger and a feeling of failure when the body does not behave according to plan.
Health, though, is not a challenge with a deadline. It is not a project you have to finish in 30 days. It is a long-term relationship with your body – built on respect, not on control with a deadline. It is not a project you have to finish in 30 days. It is a long-term relationship with your body – built on respect, not on control.
Why challenges tempt us even though they do not work
Swimsuit challenges tempt us with dramatic results. They promise -5 kilograms in just 4 weeks, a 10-day detox, a plan that “is guaranteed to work” and the results of your dreams just around the corner. And yes – for a while it may work. But it rarely lasts. The body does respond to stress and restriction, but before long it asks for the energy it lost back. That often shows up as uncontrollable sugar cravings, irritability or a tiredness that drags on all summer.

And why is that? Drastic calorie restriction leads to a drop in what is known as basal metabolic rate – the number of calories the body needs in order to maintain its basic functions at rest. A study published in 2016 followed participants in the “The Biggest Loser” competition, where people with significant excess weight lost weight rapidly through intensive exercise and a very restricted diet. The results showed that even 6 years later the participants had a slowed metabolism and were maintaining their weight only with difficulty. The body remembers fast results. And it remembers them in the form of long-term consequences that persist long after the challenge has ended.
According to Healthline, short-term diets lead to hunger and fullness hormones being disrupted and to a stronger desire for food. That eventually leads to overeating and to the feelings of failure that follow. People often find themselves in a vicious circle that is hard to step out of.
Change your mindset and move from challenge to respect
What if we stopped looking at summer as a deadline?
Health is not about how long you can keep eating salads or how many times you force yourself to go running. It is about what your body needs so that you feel functional – not just visually “fit”, but full of energy, able to concentrate, with good sleep and a steady mood.
And this is exactly the moment when you should change your mindset:
– from „I have to change“ to „I want to understand my body“
– from „restrict“ to „I want to support“.
– from „the swimsuit challenge“ to long-term vitality
These simple changes can have a bigger impact on how you function, and on the relationship with your own body, than any extreme summer challenge. Not because they are radical – but because they are sustainable. They support your body rather than draining it. And most importantly, they create a firm foundation you can build on long-term – not just for one summer.

Functional eating vs. calorie panic
Part of respecting your body is the way we eat. Instead of counting every calorie and beating ourselves up for having „failed“ when we had something extra, let us look at how food serves us. Whether it gives us energy, whether it fills us up, whether it helps our body cope with stress, whether it supports the brain, digestion and immunity.
That is exactly why at Powerlogy we build on functional foods – on quality fats, steady sources of energy, proteins and micronutrients that make a difference. Not for fast weight loss, but for better functioning. Every day. In September and in November, not only in July.
A study published in Nutrients in 2021 reported associations between stable blood sugar and a good intake of healthy fats on the one hand and cognition, energy and lower cravings on the other.
Summer as a start, not a deadline
If, while reading, you said to yourself „that is exactly what I did last year“, know that you are not alone. And that this year you can do it differently. Without extremes, without sacrifices, without comparison.
Summer can be a new beginning for you. A time when you start building habits that stay with you after you come back from holiday. A time when nutrition and respect are not a sacrifice but a value. A time when you say to yourself: my body is not a project. It is a partner that deserves my attention.
Remember that the biggest challenge you can take on is learning to listen to your body – not to fix it.
