Every single person changes once they have children. They have to.

Kristína is the mother of a three-year-old inventor of mischief and one tiny princess. During her first maternity leave she started her food blog The Tolerant Cook, which specialises in recipes for people with food intolerances.

As she says herself, she manages everything and nothing at once. Thanks to Powerlogy and the concept of biohacking she draws inspiration on how to optimise and combine her duties as a mother, a professional and a blogger while still saving time for the family trips she loves. Kristína has been a Powerlogy ambassador for a long time and today we have the honour of introducing her to you more closely.

You once said you are no chef. You are an ordinary woman who had to adapt to the situation in her family. What would you advise other women facing a new situation in the family? Whether that is an intolerance diagnosis or having to cook more because nurseries and schools are closed.

Find 10 easy favourite meals that every member of the family likes and that everyone can eat. And always keep the ingredients for 3 of them in stock. That way you can quickly cook a meal the whole family will definitely eat, even when you are short of time or do not manage to do the shopping.

You try to raise people’s awareness of food intolerances and show them how to cook tastily, nourishingly and well even with these limitations. Where do you find the appetite and strength to do this work, and what feedback moves you forward most?

I have the appetite and the strength because misinformation really irritates me, and there is a great deal of it circulating online. People then get confused by it. I often try to get my own bearings in it and pass the knowledge on in some easily understandable way.

Kika made these gluten-free pancakes with pistachio cream for our blog. The recipe is for everyone who likes something sweet but does not want to load the body with unnecessary amounts of sugar, gluten and lactose.

How do you manage motherhood, marriage and work as a food blogger? I can imagine that cooking a dish, styling it and then photographing it is time-consuming. Especially when it is no longer a hobby but work in which you have commitments to clients.

I have to admit it is not easy. Our second child was born three weeks before the first lockdown, so our older son was at home with us at the same time. This year has been demanding in that respect; on the other hand the situation forced me to reassess my priorities and reduce the amount of work on the blog. And to focus on time for myself, even though there is still not much of it.

Where do you find energy for everyday challenges? What gives you strength and what takes it away?

I am often tired and tell myself it is a lot for me – children, work, the pandemic. But then I tell myself it is only about my own mindset. I realise I have two beautiful healthy children, a happy marriage and practically nothing to complain about. I get energy from three coffees a day, regular exercise, running and our children’s smiles.

Do you have any daily rituals that hold you up even in more stressful situations?

I do not have specific rituals. But I know that when I am hungry I get irritable. So every morning I need to start with a substantial breakfast, and I also prefer to have lunch and dinner always at the same time. ? Most often I have plain white yoghurt for breakfast, a little granola, a spoonful of nut cream on top and berries.

Cashew cream with coconut is my favourite. It contains no added sugar and thanks to its lovely taste it is easy to work into anything. A jar disappears fast in our house. Ideal for a family. ?

Have you changed since becoming a mother of two?

Yes, by about 5 kg. ? I have definitely changed, our whole life has changed. I do not know how to answer this question simply, but I think every single person changes once they have children. They have to.

What do your children teach you?

The children have definitely taught me to plan more and to prioritise, but also to cook, tidy and sleep more efficiently, for example!

A vegan, a coeliac and someone with histamine intolerance walk into your home… that is not the start of a joke but a regular situation in your circle of friends, as you write on your website. Someone would probably serve them nothing but tap water; what would the tolerant cook Kristína Suchánková serve them?

For this group of friends, mostly various Indian and Asian recipes in which I use vegetables, pulses and rice, but also, for example, fantastic almond cream in savoury dishes!

Of the Powerlogy products I swear by the organic ghee, which saved me during my son’s period of casein allergy. Powerlogy Organic Ghee Butter was the only dairy product the child tolerated.

Besides ghee, at home I most often use, for example, Powerlogy Granola as breakfast for the whole family, topped with cashew cream. And for my three-year-old son the greatest reward is Powerlogy Nougat Cream.

Kika, thank you for the interview and we wish you all the best.

The interview was prepared by Žaneta Morovská, author of the book Manifest mladej ženy.
