Malt extract is the trap
Check Malt Extract on Labels
Gluten free means no wheat, barley or rye, and malt extract is where it most often hides in a bar or a granola. This is one of the largest tags in the range, with more than two hundred products.
It runs from teas and nut butters to protein powders, collagen, MCT powders and mushroom extracts. For coeliac disease or a strong sensitivity, always check the pack, because the tag page is only a guide.
Free from gluten are the teas, the nut butters, most protein powders, the collagen and the dark chocolates.
With coeliac disease, read the pack rather than the tag page. Recipes and production conditions do change over time.
